Kay Poustie Scholarship Award News

Jessica Madureira, Assistant Library Manager, City of Swan, is the latest recipient of the Kay Poustie Scholarship Award presented at the Library Board of Western Australia’s Excellence Awards held on 26 May 2016 at the State Library of Western Australia.

(l-r) Juliana Abram, Chair, State Library of WA Foundation with Jessica Madureira at the award event

Jessica was awarded five thousand dollars to research her topic Books vs. Space – Collecting meaningful statistics to make better decisions.  Jessica will investigate different methods of data collection in selected US libraries to give insight into what business libraries could be in and what services ought to be on offer. She will also attend the 2016 International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress in Columbus, Ohio in August.

As the latest awardee, Jessica joins the growing numbers of alumni who between them have contributed to an increasing and valuable body of research with practical applications in Western Australian public libraries.  Importantly, it is the community who will benefit from libraries offering services that meet today’s and tomorrow’s needs.

The goal to build a corpus for the scholarship is off to a great start.  Our partners Public Libraries WA and the State Library of Western Australia will commit $5,000 each for the next five years.  Their support together with your donations, will help to ensure Kay Poustie’s legacy lives on, and the scholarship can be delivered for many more years to come.

To make a donation please go to our donations page and select Kay Poustie Scholarship from the drop down menu in the payment box.  Cheques should be made payable to State Library Foundation WA.
